Christmas is almost upon us. One of our family traditions is to spend the Advent season reading. Not only reading our favorite advent book or discovering new great Christmas books to add to our collection, but we also love to re-reading favorites with our daughter.

I don’t know about you, but it seems that there are fewer and fewer things at Christmas that focus on Christ. Every year the world seems to try harder and harder to remove Christ from the Advent and Christmas season. The Christmas Story - The Bible Version by Carine MacKenzie has been a breath of fresh air every year we have read it and is such a great way to help us focus on the true meaning of Christmas. It was actually a gift given to us at our little one’s baby shower years ago. We have thoroughly enjoyed reading it every year since!

The Christmas Story - The Bible Version is broken down into nineteen two-page spreads. So you could do one section each night for 19 nights right before bed or for 19 mornings if you’re morning readers. Nineteen days isn’t quite the full length of Advent, but it can easily be adapted to work in a similar way. You could read it in one sitting as well, but it could be a bit longer than most nighttime books. It just depends on what would work best for your family.

The illustrations are well done and for anyone wondering, there are no depictions of Christ in this book. So if that is a concern of yours, no need to worry!

One of the things I love most about this book is that it begins at the beginning in Genesis. It traces the meaning of Christmas from the garden and the promise of a Savior in the Old Testament all the way to the Nativity. The book takes its time going through each element of the history of the Nativity and the events surrounding Christ’s birth all the way through their flight to Egypt and their return.

At the very end, The Christmas Story - The Bible Version tells us that Christmas isn’t just something to celebrate once a year, but every day! We should be forever joyful because Christ came and Christmas reminds us of that. It then goes into the purpose of why Christ came and what He did for all of those who trust in Him and obey His Word.

We highly recommend The Christmas Story - The Bible Version and are looking into reviewing some more of Carine MacKenzie’s books as well.
